COOPERATION OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE BETWEEN ELGEKA – COSCO
ELGEKA Group – via its subsidiary DIAKINISIS SA. – signed an agreement of major importance with COSCO PCT. The deal concerns a project of loading-unloading and trafficking of containers arriving at Piraeus Port, and particularly at pier II, which has been handed over to COSCO PCT for the next 35 years.
This cooperation is of particular importance at a national level, since it constitutes one of the first agreements signed within the framework Greece’s wider cooperation with COSCO group, and shapes the proper conditions for the further growth of the business relations between Greece and China. The importance of this particular agreement was sealed with the visit of Capt. Wei Jiafou, Chairman and CEO of COSCO at the premises of DIAKINISIS.
Mr. Alexandros Kasiotis, Chairman of ELGEKA Group of companies, made the following statement: “In the midst of a crisis period, like the one Greece currently faces, it is extremely important for a Greek company to proceed with this kind of deals, which “pave” the way for further growth in future cooperations at a national level as well”.
The broadening of the cooperation between the two Groups arose after their successful cooperation, which began at the end of March 2010 and lasted for two months. During this cooperation, DIAKINISIS demonstrated consistency, accuracy and efficiency, providing a reliable partner for the Chinese group.
DIAKINISIS’ organization and infrastructures, along with the support provided by the Group ELGEKA, which recorded €318 million gross income in 2009 and employs 1750 people, led to its selection by COSCO as the key partner sought for the implementation of its business plans in Piraeus Port.
